Turning Dutch scientific strength into real solutions for cancer patients

Foundation Sanquin has announced plans to relocate its activities to a new location in the future, marking a significant strategic shift for the Dutch blood supply and research organisation. As part of this decision, the further development of the Health & Innovation District Amsterdam (HID Amsterdam) will come to an end.

The move reflects a broader reorganisation of several Sanquin-related activities and business units. In line with the relocation plans, Sanquin also announced that it will phase out the activities of Sanquin Health Solutions. PurSang Diagnostiek, which focuses on diagnostic services, will continue independently through further privatisation.
In addition, Sanquin’s real estate portfolio will be sold, while the activities of Sanquin Property & Services will be transferred elsewhere within the organisation’s future structure.
Sanquinnovate, the valorisation arm connected to Sanquin Research, will remain active and will be integrated directly into Stichting Sanquin. Through this structure, Sanquin aims to continue supporting the translation of scientific discoveries and innovations into societal and healthcare impact.
Additionally, Sanquin announced that Rogier van den Braak, Managing Director of Sanquin Health Solutions (SHS), will leave his role at Sanquin and HID Amsterdam as of July 1, 2026.
For years, HID Amsterdam was positioned as an ambitious ecosystem for health innovation and collaboration, centred around the Sanquin campus in Amsterdam. The district aimed to bring together research organisations, biotech companies, healthcare innovators, and entrepreneurs in a shared environment focused on accelerating life sciences innovation.
The announcement therefore marks the end of a notable chapter in Amsterdam’s health innovation landscape, while opening a new phase for Sanquin as it reshapes its operational and strategic future.
