Syntric Medical Is Revolutionizing Lung Cancer Diagnosis With Advanced Robotic Technology That Ensures Accurate And Safe Biopsies
The company is developing a robotic platform designed to improve needle positioning in CT-guided procedures, with applications ranging from cancer diagnosis to tumour treatment.

Joric Oude Vrielink, founder of Syntric Medical, presented the technology at Health~Holland Global Investor Forum 2026. Watch his pitch to learn more about the company's approach to image-guided interventions.
Improving needle placement in image-guided procedures
CT-guided interventions are widely used to diagnose and treat conditions including cancer. However, positioning a needle can be challenging when the target is small, close to critical structures or moves as the patient breathes. Differences between the CT images and the patient's actual anatomy can make it more difficult to reach the intended target.
In biopsies, a needle that misses the target can result in a false-negative diagnosis. In tumour ablation, incorrect needle positioning can contribute to incomplete treatment and subsequent recurrence. These challenges highlight the importance of reliable guidance during minimally invasive procedures.
A robotic approach to CT-guided interventions
Syntric Medical's patented platform is designed to position instruments within a CT scanner using real-time image guidance. The system aims to help clinicians navigate towards their target and check the position of the needle during the procedure.
Rather than being limited to one specific intervention, the platform is being developed for multiple applications, including lung biopsies and ablation procedures involving the liver and kidneys. Its integration of robotics and medical imaging is intended to support procedures involving moving or difficult-to-reach targets.
Designed for clinical integration
Alongside positioning precision, Syntric Medical emphasises integration into the hospital environment. The company aims to make needle placement more straightforward and procedure times more consistent, regardless of the complexity of the navigation or the radiologist's experience.
The platform is being developed with the clinical workflow in mind, with the goal of supporting safe procedures while allowing the technology to fit into existing hospital practice. Further clinical evaluation will be needed to establish its performance and potential impact on patient care.
