ProteoGuide Raises Investment to Develop New Diagnostics from a Single Drop of Blood
1 min read
The funding will primarily be used to advance danegaptide, Breye Therapeutics’ first-in-class oral treatment candidate for Non-Proliferative Diabetic Retinopathy (NPDR), into a randomized Phase II clinical trial expected to commence in 2027. The financing will also support the continued development of Breye’s broader pipeline of oral therapeutics targeting retinal diseases, including a P2X7 receptor antagonist for intermediate age-related macular degeneration (iAMD) and additional neuroprotective programs in glaucoma.

Breye Therapeutics is a clinical-stage biopharmaceutical company based in Copenhagen, Denmark, focused on developing innovative oral treatments for retinal diseases. Its lead candidate, danegaptide, is a novel small molecule designed to stabilize retinal blood vessels and protect against retinal capillary breakdown and vascular leakage caused by chronically elevated blood glucose levels. By offering a non-invasive oral alternative to existing eye injection therapies, danegaptide has the potential to significantly improve treatment accessibility and patient adherence.
The financing follows the successful completion of a Phase Ib clinical trial in patients with NPDR, in which danegaptide was well tolerated across all dose levels and demonstrated early signs of clinical activity. The investment also comes shortly after the publication of scientific findings supporting danegaptide in Science Translational Medicine, further validating the therapeutic approach.
The financing round was co-led by Mission BioCapital and Novo Holdings, with participation from existing investor Sound Bioventures and new investors including the Ljungström family office, Innovestor, EIFO, Catalyze Capital, Modi Ventures, and Pappas Capital.
