This spring marks an important milestone for BiotechNews. Alongside this print edition, we proudly launched our completely renewed website, transforming BiotechNews into a truly multi-media platform for the Dutch and Belgian life sciences sector. The launch took place during Innovation for Health, where we hosted live interviews on the BiotechNews stage with key players from across the ecosystem. It was an energising moment - one that reflects our ambition to connect, inform, and give a voice to the people shaping our sector, both in print and online.

The cover story of the spring edition of BiotechNews magazine (page 24) builds directly on one of those live conversations. In “We have all the right ingredients - why let patients wait?”, Hans Schikan and Michel van Agthoven address a critical challenge: despite world-class science and a vibrant startup ecosystem, innovative therapies are still not reaching patients fast enough. Their message is clear - if the Netherlands wants to remain competitive, more coordinated action is needed to bridge the gap between innovation and access.

That urgency is felt across the sector. While fundraising conditions remain challenging, there are also clear signs of resilience and progress. The successful Nasdaq listing of Agomab Therapeutics, raising approximately $200 million, is a powerful reminder that European biotech can succeed on the global stage (see also the column of Eline van Beest, page 7). As highlighted in the coverage of Venture Challenge (page 22), whose alumni have collectively raised over €1 billion, the pipeline of innovation remains strong.

This Spring issue also features in-depth conversations with leaders who exemplify what it takes to build and lead in biotech today. In our interview with Tim Van Hauwermeiren (pages 14-15), we explore the journey from bold idea to global biotech success. In Leadership Without Noise (pages 48-49), Barbara Brunnhuber offers a refreshing perspective on leadership rooted in principles, trust, and authenticity.

Together, these stories reflect a sector in transition - facing headwinds, yet rich in talent, ambition, and opportunity. With our new platform, we look forward to continuing to share these stories, connecting the community, and contributing to the future of life sciences.
